Women’s Educational Programs

This community center extends educational programs for women with babies and small children living in local shelters at night and on the streets during the day. These programs are open to women who have a desire to mother their children and create secure home environments for them.

  • GED completion program: 15 young moms meet weekly with mentors as they prepare for GED testing. Alpha pays for the first round of tests. We have a 100% pass rate and a waiting list for this program
  • Fun and practical home economics classes that include cooking, home management, parenting, healthy lifestyles, etc.
  • Against the Grain’s 180 Degree Program: a 2-year, life changing mentoring program for single moms that reverses lives in despair to lives with hope.
  • ESL classes

“Reach and Teach” Children’s Programs

This program offers abundant benefits not only to the mothers who participate but also to the thousands of children that are currently attending Alpha’s programs with them. While women are attending classes, this specially tailored program is held at the same time in another room for children. Children have the chance to participate in a wide array of activities such as a music program that promotes social interaction with other children. Alpha’s volunteers provide a safe and loving environment as they mentor the children on their social and life skills reinforced by Biblical principles. This is a unique opportunity for children to spend time in an encouraging way that keeps them motivated and focused while continuing their education.  Alpha has a strong desire to establish a stable presence in these young lives and eliminate lost opportunity. Mothers should not have to face these challenges alone.
