Volunteer
Change your own life by mentoring or serving others…
Alpha Women’s Center is always looking for dedicated individuals, who are committed to Alpha’s mission and values, to serve as volunteers. The following volunteer opportunities are available at our Center. If you are interested in serving in one of these positions, please contact Ruth Gillesse, the Client Services Manager at 616-459-9955.
Mentors and class facilitators (10-12 daily)
Our mentorship program is the perfect opportunity for women with busy schedules to get involved. Mentors meet and talk to their mentees each month at times that best fit volunteer schedules. This is a great opportunity for our clients to have a personal role model and a friend. Mentors must be mature, able to sign our Statement of Faith and be at least 18-years-old. We ask for a minimum commitment of 3 hours each week for one-year. We are in need of more volunteers who are fluent in Spanish.
Receptionists and data entry (4 daily)
General office work is accomplished by the office assistant including, but not limited to, filing, copying, data entry, sorting, stocking, etc. Office assistants volunteer at least once a week for three hours. An office assistant must be a mature, Christian female, at least 18-years-old with organizational skills and a courteous manner.
Material Aid Assistants organize, replenish, and maintain material donations in our “Earn-While-You-Learn” Alpha store. This is a great opportunity for groups (Bible study, house church, small group), families, or for those who would like to help Alpha behind the scenes. You must be at least 15-years-old or accompanied by an adult.
Church liaison
Church liaisons are individuals that help promote Alpha and inform their church of upcoming events. Every church should have one or more church liaison. Liaisons should exhibit a positive attitude towards Alpha and its mission. Expressing excitement about the ministry is a must!
Building and maintenance
We would love to have a list of individuals with special skills such as plumbing, carpentry, decorating, snowplowing, and cleaning who would be willing to have us call on them when we have a specific, one-time need. We also need volunteers to do snow plowing and landscaping.
Mailing stuffers
Several times per year, we have large mailings and could use the assistance of individuals to fold, stuff, and label the outgoing mail. This is a great opportunity for families, youth groups, Bible study groups, etc. to volunteer at AWC.
Grant research and writing specialist
If you have experience in Grant Writing and Research, and would like to assist AWC, we would love to have you! Candidates should have previous experience in Grant Writing, and an appreciation for Alpha and its mission.
Internships
An internship at Alpha Women’s Center of Grand Rapids is a structured learning experience in a work setting that gives a student the opportunity to learn about a career interest and gain valuable knowledge and experience in a particular field. In an internship, you work just like an employee but your purpose is to receive mentorship, supervision, and training. Internships are designed to assist students in the career exploration process to determine if that career matches their interests and skills.
