Diaper Drive
Alpha Women’s Center of Grand Rapids offers comprehensive counseling and educational programs that reach into the souls, minds and hearts of those living below the poverty level in Grand Rapids with the hope that only Christ provides. Each time a woman (or man who is the primary caregiver) visits the center (allowed one visit per month) and participates in our programming they earn Alpha Dollars to purchase items in our store. With 2,500 visits projected this year and every family taking home at least a dozen diapers Alpha will offer
ministry in the currency of more than 30,000 diapers in 2008-09. Needless to say it is difficult to keep our shelves stocked. With the economy the way it is we see an increase in clients each week.
Alpha asks that organizations and individuals join the 2008-09 Alpha Diaper Campaign by contributing packages of diapers each month for the next twelve months. Please find a poster enclosed that may be reproduced should you determine to participate in the campaign.
Diapers for Lent
Lent is a 40-day liturgical season that begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes at the Great Vigil of Easter. Though not biblical, Lent has long been a tradition in the Christian Church, and it is thought that the tradition of the 40 days recalls the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness, fasting and being tempted by Satan (Matthew 4:1-11). Lent is considered a time of penance and discipline.
Usually during Lent, the faithful try to give up a certain food or a bad habit. We challenge you to begin a new positive habit and take funds sacrificed during Lent to purchase diapers for our center. Encourage your church or business to do the same.
