God Gave Alpha A New Home!

Thank you for taking the next step with us!

Division Update: God used many of Alpha’s friends to provide the $106,500 down payment that allowed us to close on 1725 South Division on April 15, 2010! We know that moving to Division is a god-size goal and that the only way we can accomplish this ambitious task is because of community leadership and the dedication of churches, businesses, foundations, families and individuals to respond to God’s leading for finances and volunteers. We hope to move to Division early in July as soon as remodeling to refit the building for our use is completed.

Ministry update: In 2009, our mentors met one-on-one with almost 3,000 moms offering them a listening ear, a helping hand and hope in Christ. In 2010, we asked God to expand our territory.  In response, God has directed 1,129 women to our door since the beginning of our fiscal year in October 2009. We are bursting at the seams in our current location. God also gave us the desire to reach hundreds of homeless moms with babies and small children who sleep at night in local shelters but are on the streets during the day - the most abortion and abuse vulnerable of our population.

God not only answered our prayers for growth in impact and outreach, but He also directed us to a new location in Grand Rapids that allows us room to grow in order to meet current and future needs. We believe that God knew from its construction over 50 years ago, that what was once a funeral home at 1725 South Division, would become the new home of Alpha Women’s Center to provide pregnancy care and a new Christian community center for women and children. The community center will reach homeless moms and children like missing 2-year-old Jozlynn Martinez, whose mother’s daytime respite was Degage, a ministry to homeless adults that is not meant to be an environment for moms with children.

We’re so thankful that God has provided a safe place for young moms and their children at our new location on Division. Our prayer is that God will provide funds allowing us in the next three years to own 1725 South Division with no mortgage. However, even with a mortgage our monthly payments will still be less than what we currently pay for rent for the 5,000 square foot building at our current location on East Fulton. Please consider a special gift to Alpha toward the purchase or down payment of 1725 South Division.

Donor support over the past 25 years has allowed Alpha Women’s Center of Grand Rapids to serve as an arm of the local church to show compassion and love to tens of thousands of families facing unplanned pregnancy.

Prayer request update: Were were informed that Alpha will be responsible to pay the $22,000 property tax bill for 2010 for 1725 S Division. I am so thankful for the gracious call from the Grand Rapids City Treasurer’s Office carefully explaining why this is necessary. Our application for property tax exemption is on the City Attorney’s desk waiting for review. Please pray that we receive exemption so that as a charitable nonprofit organization we won’t be responsible for property taxes in the future.  Also pray that friends who feel lead will give toward this tax bill. It is due by July 31, 2010. We have $4,500 in the building fund that we will designate for taxes leaving us with the need to raise another $17,500. We look at is as another opportunity for God to show Himself faithful through the generosity of his children.

Thank you for helping to change hearts and lives for the Kingdom and for impacting Alpha’s future.
