Will you be in the picture for teen moms?

Alpha’s vision for 2010…

At Alpha Women’s Center it is always important to be in the moment with women visiting the center because we may never see them again. We need to find that uncommon touch with each person that allows them to experience the love of Christ. That said we sent many women home this year into living situations that haunted us: growing local poverty, increased homelessness for moms with children, increased teen pregnancy, high abortion rates, growing teen STD statistics, the lack of stable and safe personal relationships (abuse), desperate hopelessness and the lack of church affiliation to provide support and sustained spiritual growth outside of our center.

As we consider the needs listed above it is Alpha’s vision for 2010 and beyond…

  • To provide increased resources through individual, corporate and foundations grants for diapers and formula (our clients will receive over 35,000 – 40,000 diapers throughout the year).
  • To offer a daytime drop-in center for women and children with insecure living environments allowing them to participate in our programs and to insure children are growing in a supportive atmosphere. These women above all need resources that encourage self esteem and personal development which makes the need for a homemaking center and a children’s playroom with structured play so valuable.
  • To provide a Christian maternity home that reiterates our message that life is precious and that our community cares enough to stand with young moms before during and after the birth of their babies because many are rejected by their families, boyfriends or husbands if they decide to have the baby.
  • To engage an army of voices and helping hands to continue to fight against abortion putting our money and hands and feet where our mouths are.
  • To provide accessibility for STD testing. Young women are far more vulnerable to these diseases and unlikely to get tested because symptoms are not always immediately evident. Gone undetected STDs can make young women sterile.
  • Many of our women and young families are desperately lonely without support systems. Most have no church affiliation. They need to experience what worship is and the kind of care that comes from being part of a church; something that could be provided at Alpha by small group worship with committed church mentors (men and women) during the week.

Will you be in the picture with Alpha in 2010? Perhaps God is challenging you to get involved. We need committed donors and volunteers to help us move into the future that God has for us and our young moms.
